Certifications and Development Programs: What Our Contributors Have to Say
Compiled by Luke M. Jones
Have you given any thought to certifications? There are a lot out there, and it can be hard to decide which ones are worthwhile. We asked our contributors which certifications and development programs they thought were most worthwhile. Here are some of their responses.
Clay Certifications
“I’d say learning Clay is one of the best moves right now. It’s become a go-to tool for GTM teams, and their certification actually proves you can build live, data-powered workflows that save real time and money. If someone shows me a Clay certification, I know they can think in systems, not just tools.”
—Mark Glazer, founder of Replylead
Clay Cohort Program
“At this point, with what I’m doing with NewGTM.ai, anyone who wants to get into this space should absolutely take advantage of Clay’s Cohort program. It doesn’t come with a formal ‘cert’ but it’s a great place to start if you want to get into go-to-market engineering.”
—Scott Stringfellow, founder of NewGTM.ai
Google Analytics 4
“For sales and marketing, I tend to recommend certifications that focus on practical application over tooling. The top one I often point people to is Google Analytics 4 (GA4), of course, because it forces marketers to think in terms of events, audiences, and outcomes rather than vanity metrics. It’s widely adopted, evolves with privacy changes, and builds a strong foundation for data-informed decision making across channels.”
—Sheri Levitt, VP of Data Insights & Intelligence at Propel Health
Certified Associate in Project Management
“The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) credential, offered by the Project Management Institute, is a highly practical certification that establishes a solid foundation in the principles and methodologies of project management. Its structured approach equips professionals with scalable project management skills applicable across industries and organizational settings.”

Accreditation in Public Relations
“The Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), conferred by the Public Relations Society of America, provides a comprehensive understanding of strategic communication, leadership, and organizational reputation management. This certification enhances one’s ability to align public relations and marketing strategies with broader business objectives, thereby strengthening both operational effectiveness and organizational sustainability.”
—Shawn Simmons, Strategic Communications & Social Media Executive
Computational Thinking Using Python
“This two class program offered by MIT through edX not only teaches you Python programming but helps you understand some of the math behind AI and machine learning. While it is fairly difficult, I also found it fun and interesting.”

Ian Stanley’s 90 Days to Freedom
“I don’t chase certifications. I chase know-how. If you want to learn this craft [email marketing], I recommend 90 Days to Freedom because it gives real-world experience plus coaching on sales and running the business, not just writing emails.”
—Heather Porter, founder of Thrivology
